The local level is the district level office of the engineering department of the local government under the Ministry of Rural Development and Cooperatives, under its local government department.Under the head of the Executive Engineer's Office, the "Executive Engineer" is under him.

Summary:

The Local Government Directorate of Engineering (LGED) is one of the major government institutions in Bangladesh, on which the responsibility of planning and implementation of rural, urban and micro-water resources infrastructure development programs at the local level. The organization works with local partners to ensure people's active participation and bottom-up planning at all levels of the project implementation process.The purpose of LGED's main development program is to improve the socio-economic conditions of the country by enhancing the efficiency of its partners and providing local infrastructure services. In creating employment opportunities at the local level, LGED prioritizes the expansion of labor-intensive technology and uses local materials in construction and maintenance work to keep it at the optimum level by implementing the project while maintaining appropriate quality standards.LGED works in a wide and multifaceted program such as road construction, bridge / culvert construction, market development, population growth, empowerment and environment protection. The LGED was initiated through the implementation of the supplementary program in the early sixties of the twentieth century, which included the Rural Purpose Program (RWP), the Thana Irrigation Program (TIP) and the Thana Training and Development Center (TTDC).In the 1970s, a 'cell' was established in the Local Government Department (LGD) of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (MLGRD & C), which became the Work Program Wing under the Development Budget in 2002 to carry out a nationwide supplementation program. On October 9, the wing was reorganized as a Local Government Engineering Bureau (LGEB) under the revenue budget.On August 12, the LGEB was promoted to the Directorate of Local Government Engineering (LGED). The institutional evolution of LGED can be illustrated as follows.

 

 

LGED is a highly decentralized organization, where eighteen percent of the manpower works at the field level. The Chief Engineer is the head of the organization, with seven additional engineers assisting in different levels of manpower. It has 3 permanent manpower at the headquarters and ground level.
